My Home Birth Journey – A Love Letter to Birth at Home

After the fast and unforgettable arrival of my first baby at the Paraparaumu Maternity Unit, I knew for any future births, I wanted something different, something more grounded, more peaceful, and more me. That’s when the idea of a home birth became not just an option, but a dream.

When I welcomed my second and third babies into the world, that dream came true, and it was an unforgettable experience.

There was no rushing to pack a bag, no calls to organise someone to collect our eldest, no bright hospital lights or unfamiliar rooms. Just the comfort of my own home, my own bed, my own space, and the beautiful calm that comes from being exactly where I was meant to be. I was surrounded by my loved ones, my partner, my children, my mother in law and my sister.

My second baby arrived swiftly, surrounded by her proud big brother, her dad, and her nana. It was such joyful moment, watching them all welcome her into the world.

And then came my third baby, who also made a speedy entrance, this time with her big sister watching wide-eyed, her nana at my side, her dad close by, and my sister right there, catching her in her hands. It was powerful, It was raw and it was beautiful.
