About
Side by Side
We are experienced midwives and have worked ‘Side by Side’ for many years on the Kapiti Coast.
We formed our practice, Side by Side Midwifery, so that we could work in a sustainable way together, providing exceptional, experienced midwifery care for whānau from Pukerua Bay to Ōtaki. This way of working is new to the Kāpiti Coast. For us, working sustainably means not taking large caseloads, or being too busy, and most importantly enjoying what we do. We love growing trusting relationships with our clients, and those they walk ‘Side by Side’ with.
We believe that a pregnancy journey is unique to each woman and our individualised care supports informed choice and decision making. This includes women's choices that do not fall within what is "normal".

We support women planning to birth at home and at Paraparaumu Maternity Unit.
Wāhine/women are strong, and believing in this strength and the natural journey of pregnancy, birth and becoming a parent underpins our practice. We provide care for hapū māmā/ pregnant women who live from Pukerua Bay to Ōtaki who are planning to birth their pēpē/baby at home or at Paraparaumu Maternity Unit. This is called primary birth. We love primary birth and are experienced and confident in this setting. If you would like to birth locally, naturally and safely, then come ‘Side by Side’ with us.
If things change during your pregnancy where it is recommended that you birth in Wellington Hospital, and you feel this is where you would like to be, we remain ‘Side by Side’ with you and navigate this journey together.
We also provide our exceptional care for hapū māmā/ pregnant women having planned caesarean sections and those requiring postnatal care only.
As part of our practice, Ange is a qualified lactation consultant, and Sheryl is qualified to provide pregnancy acupuncture.
